30 1/8in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels, rib engraved 'J. PURDEY 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET. LONDON.', 3in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, action with carved serpentine fences, non-rebounding back-action locks, dolphin hammers of pinfire form and incorporating Purdey patent retracting strikers, patent no. 424 of 14th February 1865, Jones patent rotary-underlever, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining much colour-hardening, 14 1/8in. well-figured stock including steel buttplate, weight 8lb. 12oz., in its brass-mounted oak case

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed in 1866 as a 10-bore double-barrelled centre-fire breech-loader with 30in. barrels, and sold to Jas. Brown
